Hazard / issue The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) noted notices from the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Department of Food Safety of Macao that the above-mentioned products might contain mould and are being recalled. The CFS confirmed that the above-mentioned importer had imported into Hong Kong the affected batches of products concerned.
Remedy / action
  • Not to consume the affected products. Seek medical treatment if feel unwell after consuming the products concerned.
  • The importer concerned has stopped sales and removed from shelves the affected products and has initiated a recall according to the CFS's instructions.
  • The CFS has alerted the trade, and will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action.
  • The investigation is ongoing.
  • Stop using or selling the affected batches of the products immediately if possess any of them.

Not to consume two kinds of prepackaged ice cream detected with total bacterial count exceeding legal limit

The CFS collected the above-mentioned samples from two retail outlets in Kowloon City and Sham Shui Po respectively for testing. The test results showed that the samples contained 210 000 and 55 000 bacteria per gram respectively, exceeding the legal limit. The fact that the total bacterial count exceeded the legal limit indicated that the hygienic conditions were unsatisfactory, but did not mean that consumption would lead to food poisoning

Not to consume two kinds of French cheese suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned products are being recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. A preliminary investigation found that the above-mentioned importers had imported into Hong Kong the affected batches of the products concerned. Listeria monocytogenes can be easily destroyed by cooking but can survive and multiply at refrigerator temperature. Most healthy individuals do not develop symptoms or only have mild symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, headache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea when infected. However, severe complications such as septicaemia, meningitis or even death may occur in newborns, the elderly and those with a weaker immune system. Although infected pregnant women may just experience mild symptoms generally, the infection of Listeria monocytogenes may cause miscarriage, infant death, preterm birth, or severe infection in newborns.

CFS urges public not to consume two kinds of French soft cheese suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned products are being recalled in France due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes can be easily destroyed by cooking but can survive and multiply at refrigerator temperature. Most healthy individuals do not develop symptoms or only have mild symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, headache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea when infected.
