Hazard / issue The CFS collected the above-mentioned sample from a retail outlet in Mong Kok for testing under its routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test result showed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 25 grams of the sample, exceeding the standard of the Microbiological Guidelines for Food which states that Listeria monocytogenes should not be detected in 25g of food.
Remedy / action
- Not to consume the affected product if they have bought any.
- The CFS has informed the vendor concerned of the irregularity and has instructed it to stop sale and to remove from shelves the affected batch of the product.
- Should there be sufficient evidence, prosecution will be instituted.
- The distributor concerned has initiated a recall of the affected batch of the product according to the CFS' instruction.
- The CFS will alert the trade to the incident, and will continue to follow up and take appropriate action.
- Investigation is ongoing.
- Stop using or selling the product concerned immediately if they possess it.

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned products are being recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. A preliminary investigation found that the above-mentioned importers had imported into Hong Kong the affected batches of the products concerned. Listeria monocytogenes can be easily destroyed by cooking but can survive and multiply at refrigerator temperature. Hong Kong CFS food alert CFS urges public not to consume batch of prepackaged dry sausage suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned batch of product might have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and is being recalled. Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately contacted the local importer for follow-up.
