- Do not cut, drill, sand, or carry out any invasive work on any doors that may be affected. If the door is fully installed and intact: it can remain in place, as intact doors pose negligible to no risk. If the door is uninstalled, partly installed, or damaged so that the core is exposed: stop work immediately and contact Firemex for instructions. Building owners should follow their Asbestos Management Plan and treat affected doors as potentially containing asbestos until testing confirms otherwise. Firemex will advise whether testing, replacement, or disposal is required and will guide customers through the process and next steps. In January 2026 WorkSafe confirmed that if the fire doors remain intact, they pose negligible to no risk of asbestos exposure. WorkSafe also clarified that if the door is installed in a way that exposes the fire door core, or if the damage to the door occurs that exposes the fire door core then immediate remediation must be undertaken with an organisation’s Asbestos Management Plan (AMP).
