Hazard / issue The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) received a notification from the Macao authorities that the above-mentioned bottled water was detected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas aeruginosa found in bottled water may indicate contamination of the water source and/or during the manufacture, packaging, transport and storage process. The presence of a large amount of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in packaged water can be associated with changes in taste, odour and turbidity, but rarely causes severe diseases to healthy persons generally.
Remedy / action
  • Not to consume the affected batch of the product.
  • Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately contacted the local importer to follow-up.
  • The importer concerned has initiated a recall on the affected product according to the CFS' instructions.
  • The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action.
  • An investigation is ongoing.
  • Stop using or selling the affected batch of the product immediately if in possession.
