Hazard / issue Note 3/12/2025 : this is not a new product recall. The recall of this product was originally published on 15 November 2025 . The notice has been revised to remove three products from recall as set out in a separate notice. The product is being recalled because samples have tested positive for tremolite asbestos. The product may cause a risk to health as asbestos has been detected in some samples after laboratory testing. Importantly , respirable asbestos has not been detected in any of the tested samples. The release of respirable asbestos fibres is unlikely to occur in its current state, unless the sand is processed by mechanical means such as crushing or pulverising. The risk that any asbestos found, that is likely to be airborne or fine enough for inhalation, is low.

HTI Toys HK Limited has issued a recall overseas in relation to the Stretcherz product range on the basis that the ‘sand’ inside the products may contain asbestos, and there is a risk of exposure if the product is damaged. City Beach considers that it is highly likely that the ‘sand’ originated from the same source as the other products subject to a separate recall overseas.

Modern Brands have recalled this product because independent laboratory testing has detected naturally occurring Chrysotile asbestos in some samples of Galt - Mini Makes - Sand Stickers. Importantly, no respirable asbestos has been detected. The presence of asbestos fibre bundles does not imply that there is a risk of asbestos exposure. Asbestos fibres are hazardous only if they are sufficiently fine, airborne and inhaled in sufficient quantity. The release of respirable asbestos fibres is unlikely to occur unless the sand is processed by mechanical means such as crushing or pulverising. While the risk that any asbestos found is likely to be airborne or fine enough for inhalation is low, this may still pose a risk.
